My first post.

I chose the dark theme because that is what I prefer on most websites myself.  I have a chrome extension that changes everything to dark anyway, and it is typically how I design my content.

It also has the blog articles front and center, and I like that for simplicity's sake.  It is also clean and has an about me space.  It will be a perfect blog to shoot out an rss feed and not complicated at all.  Those are really my only considerations that I felt were important in choosing it.

Social Media, Personal, and Business Use

Social media is something that most of us use frequently, if not daily.  It has permeated out culture, or business, and our personal lives.  In this short blurb, I am going to discuss which platforms are best for personal, and which are best for business use.

Social Media for Personal Use

It has been my experience that Facebook and Instagram are excellent for personal use, and expressing yourself as an individual.  They are also good for obtaining the dopamine rush associated with positive acknowledgement from your followers.  Linked in is a great place to find employment for job-seekers.  YouTube is great for consuming content.

Social Media for Business Use

Pretty much all platforms can be used by business in different capacities.  Facebook is a great place to utilize their ad platform due to its advanced targeting, and cost effectiveness.  Instagram is a great source to gain organic followings for your brand.

YouTube is the platform that I have personally settled on because of it's powerful potential to be identified and gain a following.  I also like the fact that it is a following of people consuming my video content, it would be so expensive to pay for advertising to do this, but with YouTube they will actually pay me.  I can direct people to buy my books, check out my friend's channels, whatever I want to promote.

Twitter is a good one for business in that it is a great bullhorn to broadcast your in the moment messages to your customers.  LinkedIn is a good place to garner qualified leads for both clients and prospective employees.

In conclusion

I think I would have had to write at least 1000 words to accurately describe the benefits of each platform for both private and business use.  The fact of the matter is that they are really always experiencing business on them whether we are sitting at home or not.  Every advertisement is an interaction with a business who is paying for you to see that ad.  Every time we click on it, a transaction is conducted and the business pays money.  At this point I don't really view private/business use as any different from one another.

That could also be because I promote my YT videos on my private Facebook profile in a couple of groups and with my own friends and family.  There is no separation for me, it is all business.

  1. Hi JR,
Totally agree with you the dark theme are better and is how I usually have it on my phone and computer. What kind of videos do you create and post on YouTube? Facebook is definitely a great place to put ads in for business because of how powerful their targeting system and their cost effectiveness is.

  2. Hi JR,

I really like the dark theme that you've chosen, honestly I usually use the same on most websites. The minimalism of the theme's layout also harmonizes well with the usage of headers for organization of your thoughts.

I appreciate the in-depth descriptions of each platform you are familiar with along with how useful they can be for business or personal use. I agree that Youtube, when used properly, can be a fantastic way to gain and build a following.

I'm quite excited to see more content from you!
    Best,

  3. Hello JR,

Maybe I am a little bias as I chose the same exact theme as you but I also prefer a darker page as it makes it easier on the eyes. I thought the use of images as well as using a header for each category was not only effective but also eye catching. What kind of YouTube videos do you promote on your social media?

  4. Hi JR,

When I first clicked onto your blog I was struck by the dark, masculine colors and thought this is a sweet spot for some serious business! :) I like the color scheme and can see how it would be very effective for certain kinds of businesses. I really like how the second blog post is shown with a little bit of a separation so the colors really pop. It sounds like you have a lot of experience with Youtube and I hope to learn a thing or two from you this semester.
