 I chose the dark theme because that is what I prefer on most websites myself.  I have a chrome extension that changes everything to dark anyway, and it is typically how I design my content.   It also has the blog articles front and center, and I like that for simplicity's sake.  It is also clean and has an about me space.  It will be a perfect blog to shoot out an rss feed and not complicated at all.  Those are really my only considerations that I felt were important in choosing it. It is all usually focused on promoting outside content though.
